Greetings from Kansas

Hi everyone!
So I'm finally getting around to posting, no more lurking for me. Things are going well here in my lovely home state. I'm living with my parents, which allowed me to take a belated 'summer' vacation for the months of September and October-quite nice. I had the last two of my 9 weddings in 15 months in September and then days after the last one, had a promising interview with the ABC affiliate in Topeka which hasn't had a news cast for the last three years. The week I moved home, they announced that they had been bought by a new company and were starting up news. I submitted my resume and didn't hear anything for a few weeks, but got a call about an interview three weeks later. The interview went well, and I called the News Director every four days while the job I was being considered for went from part time associate producer to part time floor director. I just wanted a job at the station, didn't really care what I was doing, especially if they were willing to give me a job, with no experience in TV news. Finally, I got tired of waiting and drove to Chicago on a whim one Sunday for two days. Of course this would be when I would get a call about a job.
I was offered a Full-Time position as an associate producer. One catch- I would be working from 2 AM to 10:30 AM. Yeah, you read that right-the over night shift. Honestly, I really didn't have to think about it all that much. I accepted later that week and started work two weeks later- this past Thursday. Right now, most of the talent-anchors, reporters, etc., haven't yet moved to Topeka and they are still working to hire producers and photographers and other behind the scenes people. So I spent the last two days reading about being a producer, and hopefully in the next few weeks we'll get computer equipment in and I can start learning how to edit and everything else that I have to know. I'm working 9-5 now, which is nice. The plan is to rehearse the month of January and launch the station in February. So that's my story so far. I'm really excited to see where this all leads in the next years. From what I've read so far, producing is to be a great fit for my news junkie personality.

Oh, so I also chopped my hair off after the weddings and my job interview. So here's what it looked like that first day.

So I'd love to hear from any of you! Hope everyone is going well where ever you are! Thanks for reading my long post!
Heidi
